5/9/12 Training

Today’s run was on the treadmill for 6.251 miles in 50:08.  It felt good to sleep in this morning, but that meant putting off today’s run until the evening.  I was happy with the run as it was a decent pace and I focused on negative splits — ensuring each subsequent mile was faster than the prior mile.

Tonight Grant had baseball pictures which gave me the opportunity to talk with another father who just ran his first Boston Marathon last month.  He said the crowds were incredible, but the first miles were extremely crowded.  He also mentioned that Heartbreak Hill wasn’t really that long, but it’s simply placed at a tough part of the race around mile 19.  Our conversation helped me remind me of my goal to qualify and actually run in the Boston Marathon.

I’m continuing to read the Sheehan book.  I’m enjoying it as it’s a good recap of how he discovered his inner-self through running.  I can easily connect to many of his thoughts and ideas.
